"Half Good, Half Bad"
Travel date:
July 2008
My partner and I stayed at this hotel for a week in July and we were a little bit disappointed in general with the attitude of the staff and particularly the air conditioning! The first night there was no air con and I found this unbearable as I couldn't sleep and woke up in a pool of sweat! After complaining, we noticed other complaints about this at reception! The staff were not friendly at all and often very miserable.
However, on a brighter note, the breakfast was very, very good! The outdoor pool was good but the pool bar shut at 6 p.m. and staff really unfriendly! Overall, the Marina Portals hotel needs to be updated.
The surrounding area was dead quiet but at least it was hot and we both got a good sun tan!

"Exceptionally Small Rooms"
Travel date:
April 2007
I have stayed at the Marina Portals hotel four times because it is the only hotel central to the harbour and it is good value. However, the twin rooms are so small it would be impossible to stay there for more than two days. I have had to ask for the coffee table to be removed before just so I could walk round the bed. I don't understand why more people haven't mentioned this. I had to book into a room on my own last time because their twin rooms are only big enough for one person. They could not charge more for such inadequate accommodation.

"Excellent Value For Money"

Whoever rated this as a four star was probably erring on the side of generosity. However, the hotel had far from a four star price tag! The staff, contrary to other reviews, couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good - I've paid £15+ per person for far worse in British hotels.
Family room was very spacious, clean and comfortable, (although a little outdated - as was the hotel in general and the lay out in the reception area in particular was reminiscent of an elderly person's home!)
Location is good - we had been a little concerned (from other reviews) about the walk to the marina, but it turned out to be a five minute stroll and not steep (80 year old aunt who we took on holiday managed it with no problem) As with all of these reviews, it ultimately depends on what you're looking for, but if you want a cheap, clean, comfortable base to sleep with a hearty breakfast, proximity to Puerto Portals to eat in a number of excellent places (try 'Rizis' - excellent food and service for about £45 a head for four courses with wine), a base to 'get out and about' (£10 taxi ride to Palma City,) then this could be the right choice for you.
Oh, and if you've not been before, take 'Thomas the Tank Engine' from Palma to Soller (sit in the front carriage on proper sofas!)The views are good, however the atmosphere on the last train home is quite an experience - the Spaniards were jabbering away, offering their bags of sweets to all and had an impromptu 'sing-song'!

"Good Standard, But Not Stuffy"

I have used this hotel before, so I know it's convenient location for the Marina, the City of Palma and the fleshpots of Magaluf ! This was my first visit since its renovation and the standard of the fabric has improved. The service of the hotel, cleaning staff and restaurant remained top quality. Sadly, the outdoor pool area was closed off for renovation (for which I was quite grateful it was December after all !). The hotel was excellent value for very little money and I can recommend it to everyone.

I agree in part with the review of September 2005 with the exception of the staff, who were helpful when needed but not very friendly. Not so much as a ‘good day' from most of them, no greeting as you went in from the restaurant manager who was always by the entrance and the male waiter was downright rude to several guests who had sat themselves at a table laid for four when there were only two or three of them and forced to move plate in hand rather than move the additional cutlery.
Lovely hotel, comfortable, if a little small double rooms, nice pools and gardens but let down by staff.

"Marina Portals Hotel Is Fantastic"

We had a most enjoyable stay. Our room was cleaned and tidied every day. The food was wonderful, the entertainment good.
Taxis readily available and the staff very helpful. We enjoyed it so much my friend and I are going back in September. The price was very reasonable too. Thank you, Hotel Marina Portals, for a very enjoyable holiday.

"Splendid Hotel"

The Marina Portals is ideal for a quiet, restful holiday, which is exactly what we wanted. The rooms are comfortable and immaculately clean. The view from our room was over the pool, with a corner of the bay visible. The staff in every department could not have been more pleasant or efficient.
Breakfast was extremely good, with lots of choice for all nationalities. Dinner each evening was superb, once again with plenty of choice. I can honestly and without reservation recommend the hotel to anyone.
