Review title:
"Great Base For A Cheap Holiday"
Travel date:
June 2008
The Galfi is great for young people who want to be close to the madness of San Antonio but far enough away to get some sleep. We knew it would be basic as it was cheap and two stars. However, the value for money is excellent.
Air con is included (took us a while to work out how to put it on - the balcony door has to be shut for it to work!), the rooms are cleaned daily, sheets and towels also changed daily.
There are only a small amount of rooms and so it is well managed. June was an ideal time to go - all the opening parties for the clubs, no kids and not too many chavs! Plus its cheaper.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The pool is a bit of a no-go - in quite a shaded area and leaves in the pool etc. Not much space for sun bathing. But with the beautiful beach a five minute walk away, this doesn't matter.
Breakfast, as has been said in other reviews, is very simple. But there is cheese and ham, bread for toast, fruit, pastries and cereal. Be warned, the tea bags taste nothing like tea! We will bring our own next time!
Expect noisy young people, doors banging and being woken up in the night. But this is Ibiza so you are naive to be surprised by this! Definitely avoid bringing anyone under 16 to Ibiza. There are things you would never want children to witness going on there!
It's a great location, close to the beach and the shops and San Antonio itself is about 15 minutes stroll along the beach. Taxis to the big clubs like 'Pacha' and 'Amnesia' were surprisingly cheap too, as the hotel is situated not far from the main road.
Would recommend 'Villa Mercedes' near sunset strip for an amazing meal in a more authentic Spanish restaurant. Stunning place. More expensive at around 14 euros a meal, but worth it. Also worth a visit is 'Cafe Mambo' - best burger I ever had, lovely sangria and worth the money for the amazing views of the sunset.
You will be pestered by people selling tickets for nights on the beach. If you get one for a boat party then after party at 'Es Paradis', go for it - amazing experience and the sunset out to sea was awesome. Also a must - do is 'Manumission' at 'Amnesia', 'Pacha' and 'Cream' at 'Amnesia'. Would recommend booking on line at home before you go, but good deals are also to be had around San Antonio if you'd rather not plan your stay.
